Description	:	Clarence Ray Graber was born in his home on January 20, 1924 to Jos C. and Alvina (Waltner) Graber. He died February 15, 2016 at Oakview Terrace after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Clarence attended grade school at Diamond Valley country school and graduated high school at Freeman Academy. He was baptized on November 12, 1939 by P.R. He died February 15, 2016 at Oakview Terrace after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Clarence attended grade school at Diamond Valley country school and graduated high school at Freeman Academy. He was baptized on November 12, 1939 by P.R. Schroeder where he became a member of the Salem Mennonite Church and remained an active member all his life. On June 15, 1952 he married the love of his life, Gertrude Goering in Moundridge, Kansas. This marriage of 63 years would span the rest of his life and would be blessed by three children, Monica Kay, David Brian, and Gwen Ann. Clarence began his lifelong profession of farming after high school when he worked together with his father and brothers Eugene and LaVerne. This eventually transitioned into a successful partnership with LaVerne that continued through his entire career. He was an outstanding farmer. He enjoyed applying new technologies with his crops and livestock. He was an excellent and creative metal worker and spent many hours in his shop creating and fixing tools and machinery. Clarence was also an excellent carpenter and electrician, building many of the buildings on his home place and later all of the buildings including the house on the farm. Clarence loved nature and was committed to stewardship of the land. He was among the first in the community to put in terraces on hilly land. Clarence had wild life acres and food plots for wild life and he loved to fish and hunt. During his retirement he had a model Blue Spruce plot where he spent many hours pruning and tending to his evergreens. Many of the spruce trees seen in Freeman, the arboretum, and Valley View Golf course are from his tree plot. As a person, Clarence was good natured, slow to anger, and a team player. He was a very loving, kind, patient, and generous man. He spent much of his life giving his time and talents to FJC/Freeman Academy, his church, MCC Relief Sale, MDS, Swan Lake Christian Camp, the arboretum, and anywhere else he was asked. He was always willing to help family members with home improvement projects. Cherishing his memory are his wife, Gertie, daughter Monica and her husband Bruce Hofer, and their two children Cameron (Rina Velez) and Stacy (Jason Medina), David and his wife Cynthia Hofer and their four children, Elliott, Michael, Ashley and Audrey, and Gwen and her husband John Hartwig and a host of family and friends. Clarence was blessed with two great‐grandchildren, Ryder, son of Stacy and Jason, and Camilla, daughter of Cameron and Rina. Preceding Clarence in death were his parents, Jos C. and Alvina (Waltner) and his sister Esther.
