Description	:	Clarence "Red" Sebastian Hefty was born on October 17, 1922, at Renwick, Iowa, to Fridolin and Rose Zwiefel Hefty. He received his education in Renwick, graduating from the Renwick High School in 1940. Clarence served his country during World War II in the Army Air Corps. He then graduated from Iowa State College in Ames, Iowa. Clarence became a milk tester in Boone, Iowa and Dallas County, Iowa. He became the official milk tester at Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Read More	Clarence "Red" Sebastian Hefty was born on October 17, 1922, at Renwick, Iowa, to Fridolin and Rose Zwiefel Hefty. He received his education in Renwick, graduating from the Renwick High School in 1940. Clarence served his country during World War II in the Army Air Corps. He then graduated from Iowa State College in Ames, Iowa. Clarence became a milk tester in Boone, Iowa and Dallas County, Iowa. He became the official milk tester at Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was married to Anna Rowley on March 26, 1949, at the First Baptist Church in Des Moines, Iowa. The couple lived near LuVerne, Iowa, where they farmed for one year. They moved to Renwick and Clarence farmed with his mother. He lived the majority of his life on the family homestead, which was a third generation century farm in 2002. Clarence was an accomplished Dairy Herdsman with registered Brown Swiss cows. He realized one of his dreams to breed a bull for the common farmer and to have a National Champion Cow. After his retirement, Clarence worked with the Natural Resources Conservation Service for one year. Clarence and Anna were able to travel Switzerland and surrounding countries several times, where they visited the families of foreign exchange students that they had hosted. The philosophy of life that he passed down to his children was to be of service to others. In his lifetime, Clarence was on the American Milk Producers, Inc. Board, Springvale Creamery Board, Boone Valley School Board, Humboldt Hospital Board, Renwick Town Council, Regional Landfill Board and the Harvey-McPeak American Legion Post # 289 at Renwick. He was an active member of the Renwick United Methodist Church, where he had taught Sunday School, was a Church Trustee and had served on the Church Board for many years. He was still active in the Giddeons at the time of his death. After retirement, Clarence was a volunteer for the U.S.D.A. Dairy Programs in Egypt. He and Anna then traveled to Jamaica, where Clarence had again volunteered to work with the U.S.D. A. Clarence died on Sunday, July 1, 2007, at the Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He was 84. Clarence is survived by his wife of 58 years, Anna of Clarion, Iowa, 4 children, 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; Fred Hefty and wife, Glenda, Renwick, Iowa and their children, Jared Hefty, London, UK and Shane Hefty and wife, Megan, Des Moines, Iowa, Francis Hefty and wife, Lu Ann, Bixby, Oklahoma and their children, Christopher Hefty and wife, Mindy, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Jennifer Born and husband, Dan, Louisville, Kentucky, Bruce Hefty and wife, Ruth, Hardy, Iowa and their children, Amy Townsend and husband, Brandon, Dakota City, Iowa, their children, Terrence and Ashley Kiley, Dakota City, Iowa, and Sharon Hefty, Moville, Iowa and Rosemary Hefty and her life partner, Denny Wubker, Des Moines, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Anna Krause and foster sister Rosa Ogan. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 6, 2007, at the United Methodist Church, Renwick, with the Rev. Dale Schoening officiating. Interment will be in the Vernon Township Cemetery, rural Hardy, with Military Honors by the Harvey-McPeak American Legion Post No. 289 of Renwick. Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home in Renwick.
