Description	:	Clarence Shriner, a resident of Hawarden during a great part of his life, passed away at his home in this city at 7 o'clock Wednesday morning, ending a long period as a helpless invalid due to cancer of the spinal cord. He was stricken about a year ago and has been bedfast ever since, being cared for most of the time at the Hawarden hospital. About the first of February of this year he was taken to the University hospital at Iowa City for observation and possible treatment but there was nothing that could be done to halt... Read More	Clarence Shriner, a resident of Hawarden during a great part of his life, passed away at his home in this city at 7 o'clock Wednesday morning, ending a long period as a helpless invalid due to cancer of the spinal cord. He was stricken about a year ago and has been bedfast ever since, being cared for most of the time at the Hawarden hospital. About the first of February of this year he was taken to the University hospital at Iowa City for observation and possible treatment but there was nothing that could be done to halt the ravages of his ailment. He returned from Iowa City about three weeks ago and has since been cared for in his home. Funeral services will be held at the Ross Funeral Home at 2:30 Friday afternoon with Rev. Robert f. Chapler, pastor of the Methodist church, in charge. Interment will be in Grace Hill cemetery. Clarence Shriner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. L. Shriner, was born at Vermillion, S.D., November 13, 1899, so was just past 40 years of age. He came to Hawarden with his parents as a baby and grew to young manhood here. About twenty years ago he began work here as a section hand on the Milwaukee railroad. Within a few years he was made section foreman at Henkin, S.D., and subsequently served as section foreman at Chatsworth and Sioux Falls. Following the retirement of the late C.J. Olson as foreman of the Milwaukee section in Hawarden, Mr. Shriner was named to that position here, moving his family back to Hawarden about three years ago, and he continued at that work until stricken by his fatal illness. He was united in marriage with Miss Sadie Krull in Hawarden on January 13, 1920. Seven children were born to them but two sons died in infancy. The children, who with his wife are left to mourn the death of a kind and considerate husband and father, are Bernice, Viola, Marilyn, Frederick and Jerry, all of Hawarden. He is also survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. L Shriner, three sisters, Mrs. John Knutson, Mrs. Fred W. Lindenman and Mrs. Arthur E. Lindenman, all of Hawarden; two half-brothers, Wm. Palmer of Waldeck, Saskatchewan, Canada, and Fred Palmer of Portland, Maine, and one half-sister, Mrs. Otto Mohr of Sioux City. Mr. Shriner was a steady, faithful worker during the years he was employed by the Milwaukee company and the family has had the sincere sympathy of many friends during the long months of his illness.
