Read More	Clarence Victor Schafer, 84, Ellis, died Thursday, June 30, 2016, at his home. He was born Nov. 23, 1931, in Ellis to Edgar and Barbara (Weber) Schafer. He married Donna J. Kunzweiler on Nov. 5, 1955. He was a 1949 graduate of Ellis High School. After discharge from the Army, he worked with his father in construction as a brick mason. In 1961, he was employed by the Prudential Insurance Company of America and retired in 1994 after 33 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran, beginning service in 1952 and was a prison guard at Fort Leavenworth. In 1960, he was granted honorable discharge. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Ellis and served in many capacities, including head usher, president of church council and church council member. He filled in for the pastor as needed to give Sunday sermons and truly enjoyed this honor. He had always said his lifetime dream was to become a minister. He was a family man. He enjoyed family moments, playing cards, Frisbee, badminton, bowling, golfing, fishing, gardening, dancing and playing the guitar and piano. His favorite hobby was woodworking. His talent and creativity showed in the perfection of his projects. With pride, he attended all of the activities of his daughters and grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, of the home; three daughters, Karen Bowen and husband, David, Garden City, Gayle Pfannenstiel and husband, Mark, WaKeeney, and Marian Lindberg and husband, Glyn, Elllis; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Christ Lutheran Church, Ellis; burial in Mount Hope Cemetery, with military honors by the Ellis Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Monday at Keithley Funeral Chapel, 400 E. 17th, Ellis, KS 67637, and from 10 a.m. until time of service Tuesday at the church.
