This article appeared in the Baltimore Sun Supplement, Friday, 1 August 1890, p. 2, col. 5: FREDERICK COUNTY. Frederick, Md., July 31. - The family and friends of Mr. Clarence W. Remsburg, formerly of Middletown, have received word that it was he who was recently shot and killed in Fresno county, California. The affiar (sic) as reported in the San Francisco papers seems to be mysterious. Remsburg was accused by Samuel Hocking with having stopped at his house in his absence and demanding something to eat of Mrs. Hocking. Upon being refused Remsburg and Mrs. Hocking, it is claimed, got into a scuffle, after which Remsburg left. Three days later he was mysteriously shot and killed while driving along the road in a buggy.
