Claracy Brundridge, one of the seven children born to Mr. and Mrs. Mandus Brundridge, first sawthe light of day in the state of Ohio on the twenty-seventh day of January, 1839. Of her father's family four children still remain traveling this earthly pilgrimage. They are Mrs. Esther Leeper and Mrs. Mancy Rye, both of Anamosa Than, who reside's in Minnesota, and Jet of Cedar Rapids. When the subject of this sketch was but a girl her parents moved to Iowa and settled in Jones county. Here her girlhood days were spent and here she met and loved Elisha Harry, giving him her hand in marriage July 8, 1855. To them eight children were born and as four have preceded the mother to the world past our sight, those remaining are Mrs. Jane Pratt, Spokane, Washington Mrs. Ella Morris, Selan, Washington, and John A. and Oris A., who live in Ottumwa. There are also twelve grandchildren who sorrow with the other loved ones today. During the sixty years of her married life Mrs. Harry had but two homes. Just after their marriage Mr. Harry moved to Poweshiek county and thirty-eight years ago or in 1877 brought his family to Ottumwa and this city has even since been the home of the deceased. Mrs. Harry was a religious character. Years ago she expressed faith in the Lord and joined the Methodist Episcopal church, but in some way her membership was lost but during the pastorate of Rev. A. B. Cadwell it was restored and her name placed on the roll of the Main Street church. She was one of the Marthas in the world of religion and the constant care she gave her afflicted husband in his suffering and blindness will be an example of Christian beauty to the generations that remember her virtues and emulate her faithfulness. As the dark messenger came at 1:40 p.m. Saturday, January 9, she had spent 75 years, 11 months and 12 days on earth. Besides the loved ones mentioned there are a host of friends and many other relatives who mourn her loss. The funeral services were conducted in the home of her son, John Harry, Ottumwa, January 12, at 2 o 'clock p. m., Rev. C. A. Field, pastor of the Main Street M. E. church, officiated and the remains were placed to rest in the Shaul cemetery (From the Ottumwa Courier January 19, 1915)
