He was greatly loved and admired by his family. He was a true father in every sense and a man of his word. Claude was born to George F. and Dell Buckingham on June 22, 1927 in Mansfield. He was the youngest of nine children. He grew up working on wheat farms in the Mansfield area. Claude lived in Washington state most of his life. At age 17, he entered the U.S. Coast Guard and proudly served in the W.W. II Pacific Theatre. Shortly after the war, he went to work for Boeing and began his family. He later worked for the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation and the Bonneville Power Administration. Claude was a highly-skilled electrical engineer who installed power, communication and microwave systems throughout the Northwest. The joy of Claude's life was his four children and his ten grandchildren. He dedicated each day to his family and to being a spiritual role model. His daily activities were directed toward the nurturing and prospering of his family. The wisdom and love he shared will remain as an inspirational legacy to us. Claude's hobbies included hunting, fishing, history and politics. Claude loved to talk about America and was deeply committed to preserving the freedoms of the U.S. Constitution. He was committed to ensuring that his grandchildren and all young people, were provided equal opportunity for education and prosperity. He enjoyed talking with people wherever he went and was always the center of attention at the Alterra Columbia Edgewater Care Facility in Richland. The family is grateful to Alterra for their wonderful care of Claude during the last 30 months. Claude is survived by his children and spouses, Claudia Catlow, Grand Coulee, Bruce and Linda Buckingham, Everett, Glen and Amy Buckingham, Berthoud, CO and Diane and Dave Borders of Richland. Grandchildren are Heather Catlow, Lloyd, Derek, Kyle, Brie Ann Buckingham, Cassi and Megan Buckingham and Quinn, Tyler and Ashley Borders. Claude's surviving brother and sisters are George Buckingham of Yakima, Claudine Davis of Coulee City, Alene Avenell in Mansfield and Marcia Smith of Rocklin, CA. Funeral services will be held on Sept. 14, 2000 at 1 p.m. at the Mansfield United Protestant Church. Donations can be made to the Lung Association of Washington State.
