Read More	Claude Henry Selfridge, son of Henry Ward and Clara Mae (McDonald) Selfridge, was born October 22, 1908, at Nickerson, Kansas. Claude died after a sudden illness on March 13, 1976, at Larned, Kansas. The funeral service, officiated by the Rev. John Baker, was held at the Mary C. Norris United Methodist Church, Burdett, with burial in the Browns Grove Cemetery. When Claude was a child, he moved with his family to a farm in the Burdett area. It was here that he graduated from high school. On November 8, 1933, Claude and Christina Carter were united in marriage at Syracuse, Kansas, and since that time have lived on a farm near Hanston. They were blessed with one son and four daughters: Claude Allen, Karen Louise, Lois Marie, Barbara Ann and Janet Lynn. Claude was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Barbara Ann, his parents, and a brother, Gerald. Those surviving are his wife, Christina, son, Allen of Hanston; daughters, (Karen) Mrs. Leonard Maxwell, Garden City; (Lois) Mrs. Bill Price, Rozel; (Janet) Mrs. Jom Polzin, Larned; five grandchildren, Douglas Maxwell, Lori, Beth, Lana and Becki Price, brother Elmer Selfridge, Burdett; and an aunt, Mrs. Eolia Corington, Nickerson. Claude was a school board member for eighteen yers. He was a member of the Kansas Angus Association and a charter member of the Hanston Lions Club. He was treasurer of the Marena Township Board and he contributed in many ways to the Hanston United Methodist Church. His special joy was his family and grandchildren. As a farmer and rancher, he lived a useful and busy life, but always had time to talk and joke with his wonderful friends.
