Kent, 54, Holyoke station agent for the C.B.& Q. railroad, collapsed and died of a heart attack early Sunday while on a fishing outing at Lake McConaughy near Ogallala, Nebraska. Funeral services were held at 2:00 o'clock yesterday afternoon at the Holyoke Methodist church with Rev. J. Wilson Branstetter officiating. Interment was in Holyoke Memorial Park. Arrangements were in charge of the Lewis Funeral Home. Mr. Kent was accompanied to the lake Saturday evening by R. T. Rathjen, manager of the local yard of the Foster Lumber Co. Rathjen said they fished about 2 miles east of Otter Creek on the north side of the lake until 11:00 p.m. then went to the car for lunch. They returned to their lines and fished until about 1:15 a.m. then decided to return to the car to sleep until daylight. Going back to the car they became lost and wandered about for a time. They came upon some other men who were fishing near their lines and got their directions straight then started for the car again. Rathjen said he arrived at the car and noticed that Mr. Kent's light was still some distance from the car. He called to Kent but received no answer and went back to investigate. It was discovered that Mr. Kent had suffered a sudden attack and died. One of the other fishermen called authorities at Ogallala from the Otter Creek cabins and the body was taken to Ogallala. Rathjen estimated the time of Mr. Kent's death at about 2:30 a.m. Sunday. Claude Lawrence Kent, the foster son of Joe and Mary Kent, was born at Sumner, Iowa, August 8, 1900. He was reared in that community and moved to Nebraska in 1925. He was united in marriage to Lorraine Rickly at Gering, Nebraska on December 4, 1925. He became a member of the railroad brotherhood in 1916, starting his railroad career at Sargent Bluffs, Iowa. He had been an operator for the railroad at Fort Laramie, Torrington and Guernsey, Wyoming, and Bayard, Minatare, Angora and Morrell, Nebraska before coming to Holyoke as station agent. Surviving Mr. Kent are his wife; two foster sisters, Mrs. F. L. Kinstry [McKinstry], Sargent Bluffs, Iowa, and Mrs. Matt Sack, Reeder, North Dakota, and one half-sister, Mrs. Addie Agerter, of Sumner, Iowa. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ He signed a WWI draft registration card September 12, 1918 at Sioux City, Woodbury County, Iowa giving his date of birth as August 6, 1900. Description: age 18, tall, slender build, blue eyes, brown hair. Occupation: helper at R. R. Station, Chicago & N. Western R. R. in Sergeant Bluff [Sergeant Bluff], Woodbury County, Iowa. He named Mrs. F. L. McKinstry of Sergeant Bluff as his nearest relative. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Claude's mother was Jenny Olds. She was married to Alonzo Olds. Later Divorced.
