Description	:	Anita Mendonca, 86, of Chelan, died Saturday, March 7, 2009. Anita was born Sept. 24, 1922, the eldest of four children to John E. and Claudia Palmer in Chelan. The Palmer family moved to Chelan Falls in 1928. She and her brothers and sister went to school in Chelan Falls from first grade through the eighth grade. Upon graduation she continued onto high school in Chelan and graduated in 1940. After high school she attended nursing college at Columbus Hospital in Seattle, graduated in May 1944 and became a registered nurse. From there she worked in children's orthopedics. She then served... Read More	Anita Mendonca, 86, of Chelan, died Saturday, March 7, 2009. Anita was born Sept. 24, 1922, the eldest of four children to John E. and Claudia Palmer in Chelan. The Palmer family moved to Chelan Falls in 1928. She and her brothers and sister went to school in Chelan Falls from first grade through the eighth grade. Upon graduation she continued onto high school in Chelan and graduated in 1940. After high school she attended nursing college at Columbus Hospital in Seattle, graduated in May 1944 and became a registered nurse. From there she worked in children's orthopedics. She then served in the Army Nursing Corp and served in World War II in Korea. She retired as a captain in 1953 from Madigan Army Hospital in Tacoma. She was married in 1957 and suffered a divorce in 1959. She returned with her son, Evan in 1960. She later worked as a registered nurse for several doctors in Chelan. She retired from nursing at the age of 68. After retirement she continued to volunteer with organizations in Chelan. Survivors include her son, Evan Mendonca of Chelan; and her brothers, John Palmer and Bill Palmer, both of Moses Lake; and her sister Clara DeRusa. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Francis Catholic Church in Chelan. Arrangements are by Precht Rose Chapel, Chelan.
