Description	:	Claus Henrich Ivers was born December 21, 1846, in Aschefel, Germany, and son of Henrich and Maria (Greve) Ivers. Claus was but one of nine children born to his parents, and all but three immigrated to the United States, and settled in Iowa. As a young man, he came to the United States and settled near Davenport, Iowa, where he met and married on June 6, 1870, in Fulton Township, Muscatine Co., Iowa, to Christianna Kranz/Krantz, the daughter of William and Christiana (Wittekem) Krantz. Read More	Claus Henrich Ivers was born December 21, 1846, in Aschefel, Germany, and son of Henrich and Maria (Greve) Ivers. Claus was but one of nine children born to his parents, and all but three immigrated to the United States, and settled in Iowa. As a young man, he came to the United States and settled near Davenport, Iowa, where he met and married on June 6, 1870, in Fulton Township, Muscatine Co., Iowa, to Christianna Kranz/Krantz, the daughter of William and Christiana (Wittekem) Krantz. She was also born in Germany in 1847. They had five children, Henry (1870); Emma (1872); William (1874); Fredrich (1876); and Mary (1879). Christianna died 1881, in Shelby, Shelby Co., Iowa, and Claus married second to Magdelina Swartz Rolletmann on June 16, 1881. To this couple three more children were born: Theodore (1882); Amelia (1883); and Emil (1884). In 1873, Claus and his family traveled west from Scott County to Pottawattamie and settled on a farm in Section 23, of York Township. Family tradition relates "they moved to the prairie land south of Minden, and came by team and wagon. Young Henry wanted to drive the team but was told he was too young." Descendants recall further stories of how "daughter, Emma, would ride a horse every evening to find the cows since there were no fences, and all the children would go out on to the prairie and gather red roots to burn for fuel."
