Hiner, 71, of 406 Grant, died Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at Ottumwa Hospital. He was born in Davis County, Nov. 5, 1891, the son of Andrew and Delilah Ware Hiner. Survivors include several sisters and brothers and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son and a daughter. The body is at the Traul Funeral Home. “Hiner Funeral,” From “Ottumwa Courier,” Saturday, August 25, 1962: The service for Clay Edgar Hiner, 71, of 406 Grant St., who died Thursday at Ottumwa Hospital, will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at the Traul Funeral Home. Rev Ellsworth Walker, pastor of Wesley Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery. Survivors include a brother, Elpha Hiner of Huron, S.D.; five sisters, Mrs. Goldie Hendrickson and Mrs. Gladys Gartner, both of Des Moines, Mrs. Hattie Fugle of Salem, S.D., Mrs. Lizzie Steen of Faith, S.D., and Mrs. Myrtle Fry of Turlock, Calif.; three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. A son and a daughter preceded him in death. Mr. Hiner was a former employe of the Burlington Railroad in the repair and freight department.
