He had been in ill health for a number of years, the immediate cause of death resulted from an operation for a gastric ulcer. Decker, pastor of the M.E. church conducting. Mr. C. Marsh sang "Beautiful Isle" and Mrs. G.G. Goodman and C. Marsh comforted those who mourned with the duet "In the Garden." Interment was made at Sumner. Pallbearers were M.E. Brewer, F. Stein, James Waugh, F. Richards, J. Allen,and J. Sisk, all Veterans of the Spanish American War. Taps was sounded at the grave by James Waugh. When a small boy Mr. Greene moved with his parents to Jackson, Mich., where he received his education. At an early age he united with the Baptist church. On September 8, 1899 he enlisted as a volunteer of Company G of the 42nd Regiment of Infantry in the Spanish American War, being promoted to the rank of corporal. Shortly after the close of the war he came west to Alliance, Nebraska, entering the master mechanics office of the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy railroad where he was employed successfully for a number of years, later coming to Lead City, South Dakota where he was employed as foreman by the Homestake Mining Co. On December 26, 1912 he was united in marriage to Elsie Aileen Barrowcliff and to this union was born a daughter and two sons. Mr. and Mrs. Greene came to Auburn, Washington in 1918 and have made their home here. Mr. Greene was a faithful and competent employee in the store department of the Northern Pacific railroad. Mr. Greene was interested in science, spending many hours with inventions, perfecting several. Devoted to his family, his hours of recreation were spent with them, his music and flowers. Left to mourn his passing are his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Helen Greene Smith of Venice, California, Elsie Constance and two sons, Nathaniel C. and Kermit Quentin, all of Auburn; also three brothers, C.A. Greene of Palos Park, Ill., L.J. Greene of Palo Alto, California and J.O Greene of Boulder, Colorado.
