Description	:	MITCHELL - Clayton Parks DeMott, 89, died Sunday, June 3, 2007 at the Mitchell Care Center. Cremation was held at the Jolliffe Funeral Home Crematory in Scottsbluff. A memorial graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, June 8, at West Lawn Cemetery in Gering with Father Gerald Harr officiating. The Nebraska National Guard will provide military Rites. Clayton was born Feb. 6, 1918 in Scottsbluff to Parks Earl and Ida Margaret (Andrews) DeMott. He grew up in Gering and attended schools there, graduating from Gering High School with the class of 1936. He attended Midland Lutheran College in Fremont, Neb. and during World War Two from 1942 until 1946, he served as a Captain with the United States Army Air Corps, flying B29's and B25's in the European Theatre of Operations. Following his honorable discharge, Clayton worked as an insurance agent for a time, and on Oct. 3, 1949, he married Shirley Carroll at Minatare. Clayton served as a volunteer for the probation department, and in 1961, began his career with the State of Nebraska as a probation officer, ultimately serving as Chief Probation Officer for the District 10 Probation office in Gering, a position he held until his retirement in 1983. Shirley and Clayton lived in Gering until moving into one of the first apartments at the Village at Regional West in Scottsbluff. They moved to the Mitchell Care Center in 2004. He was a member of Christ The King Catholic Church in Gering and formerly was active in the Lions Club, the Gering Jaycees, the VFW, the American Legion, the Wyo-Braska Council of the Boy Scouts of America, the Knights of Columbus and the Hiram Scott Flying Club. He also served on the committee for the crime commission, which rewrote the Probation Act, which were the probation laws for the State of Nebraska. Survivors include sons, numerous grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, including Norman E. DeMott of Torrington, Daryl Carroll of Denver, and Clayton G. DeMott of Gering. Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, sisters Florence Andrews and Henrietta Christy, infant twin brothers and Brother Norman R. "Buzz" DeMott.
