Description	:	Pastor Clayton Sommers Pastor Clayton Sommers, 97, of Kokomo, went to be with the Lord at 6:05 PM Sunday, October 10, 2010 from Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis. Born October 22, 1912 in Howard County, IN, he was the son of the late Daniel J. Sommers and Elizabeth (Zook). On September 29, 1935 in Miami County, IN, he married Ruth A. Read More	Pastor Clayton Sommers Pastor Clayton Sommers, 97, of Kokomo, went to be with the Lord at 6:05 PM Sunday, October 10, 2010 from Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis. Born October 22, 1912 in Howard County, IN, he was the son of the late Daniel J. Sommers and Elizabeth (Zook). On September 29, 1935 in Miami County, IN, he married Ruth A. Hershberger, and she preceded him in death on December 18, 1992. He was a farmer for many years. Following farming he became an independent Insurance agent, real estate broker, and tax preparer. In those same years, he served as pastor and Bishop of Parkview Mennonite Church. He was ordained in 1954 and retired in 1970. He served on the Executive Council of the Indiana-Michigan Mennonite Church Conference. He was also involved in the interstate fundraising for the Oaklawn Psychiatric Center. He was currently an active member of the church. Survivors include one son, Karl C. (Roxanna) Sommers of Goshen, IN; one daughter Grace E. (Robert) Whitehead of Kokomo; one daughter-in-law Dawn Hetherington of Zion Grove, PA; eight grandchildren Christopher (Missy) Whitehead, Emily Polanco, Cindy (George) Huss, Greg (Sue) Leatherman-Sommers, Jonathon Sommers, Hannah (Anthony) Yoder, Kathryn Sommers, Laura Sommers; five great grandchildren Aliana Polanco, Ahna Huss, Luke and Tessa Leatherman-Sommers, and Noah Sommers Yoder. There are also several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son, Elson Sommers; four sisters, seven brothers, and one great grandson, Brian Sommers. Services will be 10:30 AM Friday, October 15, 2010 in Parkview Mennonite Church, 1382 E. C.R. 100 North, Kokomo, IN 46901. Pastors Lillian and Jacob Elias will officiate. Burial will follow in Mast-Hensler Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday at the church; also one hour prior to the service on Friday. Memorials may be directed to Parkview Mennonite Church with envelopes available at the church.
