Read More	Obituary from The Spearville News April 14, 1938 Clem Heeke Died At Home Thursday Had Been In Failing Health Several Months – Buried Monday Morning Clem Heeke, an early settler in the Windthorst neighborhood, died at his home last Thursday morning at 11:45 o'clock. He had been in failing health for several months. He was 64 years, 6 months and 17 days old. Mr. Heeke was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, September 21, 1873. He received his early education and was baptized in that city. As a boy of twelve he came with his parents, Joseph and Elizabeth Heeke, to Windthorst where he has since resided. His education was concluded in the Immaculate Heart of Mary school in 1886. Ten years later he was married to Miss Mary Droste which was culminated six years later by a sad tragedy. A contagious malady in the neighborhood struck his family a terrific blow. His little son, Joseph, was the first afflicted. He died and was buried the day another son, Harry was born. Three days later his wife died and when he returned to the funeral he found a second son, George, sick unto death with the terrible malady. George died several days later. The father took his infant son and made his home with his parents for seven years. On October 20, 1909, he married Miss Augusta Kasselman. To this happy union were born four children: Alma, Raymond, Cletus and Leonard. Alma joined the Sister Adorers of the Most Precious Blood Adorers of the Most Precious Blood in Wichita in 1932 and is known as Sister Mary Ignatia. The three boys are at home and Harry is married and lives nearby. Mr. Heeke was a member of St. Leon Council of the Knights of Columbus, St. Mary's Sodality and the Sacred Heart League. He was quiet, self-sacrificing, charitable, pious, loving individual who was loved by everyone he met. On every side, one hears of the characteristics of Mr. Heeke, his kindness to the needy, the homeless and the suffering. His active, useful career was suddenly hampered by the illness that came upon him some months ago. Although he was suffering constantly none of his many friends heard a word of complaint. Patience, cheerfulness, and silence predominated his cross laden life. Faith in his God and Providence were his goals. He was well-prepared to meet his God, fortified by the Last Sacraments of our Holy Mother, the Church, sustained and encouraged by his wife; his daughter, Sister Ignatia; his sons, Harry, Raymond, Cletus and Leonard; his daughter-in-law, Emmeline; his brother, Henry Heeke of Lakin; his sisters, Mrs. Fred Torline and Mrs. Harry Schawe; his dear relatives and faithful neighbors. Besides the above named he is survived by his four grand-children, Evelyn, Louise Mae, Alfred and Juliana. Sister Ignatia arrived late Wednesday morning at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Windthorst, at 9:30 Monday, and interment was in Holy Cross Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Ben Lampe, Henry Nau, Will Fredelake, Henry Hattrup, Fred Temaat, and Frank Temaat.
