Description	:	Clemens Schwabe, son of August Schwabe, and Maria nee Schubert, was born July 19, 1884, in Treuen, Saxony, Germany, where he was confirmed and baptized in the Lutheran church. In 1901, at the age of 17, he emigrated to America. His first stay was in Postville, Iowa, where he worked for his cousin in a newspaper office, publishing the "Iowa Volksblatt." He followed the newspaper business also in Monroe, Wisc. For some time he lived in Chicago, Ill., working in a foreign language job-shop. In Milwaukee he was also in the printing business. In 1912 Mr. Schwabe came to Seward. He purchased the German newspaper from Mr. Tagwecker, and published it until the outbreak of the World war under the name of "Seward Journal." During the war the paper was changed to English, till in 1931 he sold the subscription list to the two other local newspapers. Since that time Mr. Schwabe operated a job shop. Wherever Mr. Schwabe lived he was a faithful member of the Lutheran church. He affiliated with the local St. John's Ev. Lutheran church when he came to Seward in 1912. On June 12, 1913, he was united in holy wedlock with Bertha Meyer of Postville, Iowa. There are no children. About seven years ago, Mr. Schwabe first noticed that he was subject to heart attacks, which seemed to recur every January. He took sick on Thursday, Febr. 1, seemed to have recovered from the attack, but a turn for the worse set in. He died in the Seward hospital on Wednesday, Febr. 7, between 11 and 12 p.m. His age is 55 years, 6 months and 18 days. He is survived by his widow and four sisters: Mrs. Augusta Holste, Mrs. Ida Wolff, Mrs. Anna Schmalfuss, Mrs. Maria Schultz, all living in Germany. One cousin is living in Postville, Iowa. On Monday, Febr. 12, funeral services for Mr. Schwabe were held in St. John's Lutheran church, the Rev. I. C. Heinicke officiating. Interment was made in Greenwood cemetery.
