Description	:	Clement C. Craig, 72, retired mail carrier who resided at 205 West Clay, died suddenly when he was stricken while at work at the desk at the police department at 9:35 a.m. Wednesday. Mr. Craig was working as desk sergeant for Asst. Chief L. T. Harlan, who is in Mercy hospital at Iowa City, at the time of his death. Police Chief Werner Smith said that Mr. Craig collapsed at his desk and that Smith and two highway patrolmen who came into the station administered oxygen but to no avail. An ambulance was called to take him to Memorial hospital but he was dead on arrival. He was born August 27, 1898, near Glasgow, Ia., the son of Edwin Shaffer Craig and Unitia Chezum Craig. On June 21, 1926, at Osceola, Iowa, he was married to Eva Spangler who survives. Before he was employed as a mail carrier for 25 years, Mr. Craig had worked at C & E Co, Burlington. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Mrs. Irving (Carol) Lewis of Denver, Colo. and Donald Craig of National City, Calif., eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Barton (Irene) Simmons of Mt. Pleasant. Three sisters and one brother preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held Saturday April 10, at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church with the Reverends Carl Wilson and Chester Potts officiating. Interment will be in Forest Home Cemetery. Friends may call at the Weir-Cookes Funeral home after 4 p.m. Thursday.
