Description	:	Clement Janis, 89 of Pryor, went to be with our heavenly father on Sunday July 15, 2012. Clement was born the son of Foster and Elisabeth Janis on April 16,1923. He was born in O'Kreek, S.D. He attended school in St. Frances, S.D. He married Vivian Pease in Valentine, Neb., on July 28, 1943. They resided in Rosebud S.D.; Seattle, Wash.; Chicago, Ill.; Los Angeles, Calif., before retiring and spending their remaining years together in Pryor. He was born in O'Kreek, S.D. He attended school in St. Frances, S.D. He married Vivian Pease in Valentine, Neb., on July 28, 1943. They resided in Rosebud S.D.; Seattle, Wash.; Chicago, Ill.; Los Angeles, Calif., before retiring and spending their remaining years together in Pryor. Clement was a loving husband, grandfather, uncle and brother to all who knew him. He always had a smile, hug and sense of humor that made everybody's day brighter. He helped everyone in need. He had great love for children and enjoyed his grandchildren and great-great-granddaughters. Clement was an enrolled member of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe of Rosebud, S.D. He was Ogalala Lakota Sioux. He was a proud WWII U.S. Marine veteran. He fought in the battle of Guadacanal. (Often he joked and said he fought in the civil war.) When residing in Los Angeles, he was the president of a nonprofit organization called the Shooting Star Foundation, also known as the Indian Welfare Service. It was a service that helped Native American families in need when struggling. This organization helped with clothing, food, holiday boxes and everyday necessities. He was proud to be part of this organization that was greatly needed. Clement was also a very talented painter. His work consisted of oil paints on velvet — portraits of Native American Chiefs. Clement worked for North American Airlines in Los Angeles as an assembly line worker and was proud to be part of the construction of the first space capsule. He retired from this job in Los Angeles after relocation to several states. He moved his family to Pryor in 1972. He became the bus driver for the public school there for several years while his health enabled him to continue working; he then retired. Clement and Vivian cared and raised their grandchildren and opened their home to anyone who needed a place to stay or just to visit. He was also known as the Mayor of Pryor. Clement also held Bible studies and raised his children and grandchildren to believe and have faith in Jesus Christ Our Lord. You'll be surely missed! Love you so much, thanks for being there for us all! His wife, Vivian Pease Janis, parents Foster and Elizabeth Janis, brother Levi Janis, children Patricia and Anna Janis, grandsons Loren Janis and Sheldon Beartusk, preceded him in death. Survivors include his son John Janis of Pryor; daughters Alice Janis of Sacramento, Calif., Shirley Janis of Pryor and Annette Janis Beartusk of Billings; adopted daughter Jamie Janis of Tacoma Wash.; adopted son Clement Janis II of Tucson, Ariz.; grandchildren, Fawn Beartusk of Billings, Jennifer Janis of Sacramento; great-grandchildren, Taylor Plainbull, Cameron Walks, Carmen and Billy Joe Williams, Christopher Janis and Ciara Hagastad, Clement Janis III, Chrysjynn Janis, Angelina and Teneya Janis, Loren Jr., Lashauna, Lanesssa and Logan Janis, Maleeya Plainbull, Destiny and Amelio Janis; great-great-grandchildren Mckynzii and Delany Plainbull, and numerous adopted children and grandchildren, brother and sisters. He loved you all very much. Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, July 19, at Smith's Downtown Chapel, 925 S. 27th. Interment will follow at the Lodge Grass Cemetery.
