Clem was born Clement Theodore Thompson according to his draft registration, however, again his birth record spells his name Claman. Most of the time he went by Clem on a few of the census, Theodore on the 1900, and on other docs Clement and sometimes he included his middle initial. He was born in Green Twp, Hocking Co, Ohio and on the 1900 Census he is living with his parents in Starr Twp, Hocking County and working as a farm laborer On 24 Jul 1907 he married Mary J Todd also in Hocking County, daughter of Henry Todd and Hattie Hamilton. In 1910 he is living with his wife of 2 years and their 2 year old son in Starr Twp, Hocking County where he was working miner. On September 12 1918 he was living at 717 High in Nelsonville, Athens County, Ohio and working as a miner for JB Lama & Sons when he registered for the draft for WWI in Athens. The 1920 census shows Clem with his wife still in Nelsonville with a second son. He also still working as a coal miner. The 1930 census gives Clem a new residence and occupation. He and his family, including two new additions were living in Rome, Prairie Twp, Franklin County, Ohio and traded his mining tool for carpentry and worked building houses. In 1940 Clem, his wife Mary and his two youngest children were living back in Nelsonville, Athens County at 45 Robbins Rd but he was still busy working as a carpenter. He states he was living in the same house in 1835. For some reason, Clement was counted again, still in Nelsonville and married, but without his family and was chosen for the "extra" questions. Yes he had a social security number and yes his whole wages were deducted for the Federal Old-Age Insurance. However, on this entry, he states he was living in Rural Hocking County in 1935. So sometime between 1940 and 1951 he moved again, this time to Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio where he is listed in the City Directory living at 26 S. Warren and was working as a janitor. Clem died 26 February 1977 in Columbus as did his wife 7 years earlier. To think, that was only a couple of weeks after my daughter was born. Clem is my Great Grand Uncle. So many generations he lived to see. He was 95 years old.
