A graveside service will be held Friday, May 7 at 1 p.m. at the Corydon Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Iowa or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Cleo Lucille was born Aug. 4, 1928 to Samuel and Elizabeth (Nickel) Engle in rural Corydon. She graduated from Corydon High School in 1946. Cleo was united in marriage to Donald Kent of Promise City on Sept. 10, 1950 in Corydon. To this union three children were born. The couple moved to Eddyville in 1962 where Don continued his teaching career and Cleo raised their family. In addition, she provided day care for many local children. Cleo and Don were faithful and active members of the Eddyville United Methodist Church. They enjoyed camping, traveling and participating in craft shows. Following Don's death in 1994, Cleo became involved in the Congregate Meal program and enjoyed the fellowship of friends. In 2015 she moved into the Belmond Community Apartments where she made many new friends through Congregate Meals, playing cards and Bingo, and putting puzzles together. Cleo was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who greatly enjoyed family gatherings. She was preceded in death by her husband, brothers Lewis, Joe, and Doyle Engle; sisters Avis Baber, Ilo Morse and Elo Reynolds and their spouses; and brother-in-law Maurice Kent. Cleo is survived by sons Gary (Connie) and Bill (Carolyn) Kent; daughter Barb (Steve) Soma of Belmond; grandchildren Andy (Maddy) Kent, Julie Kent, Ryan (Sara) Kent, Adam (Dana) Kent, Brad (Paige) Soma, and Amy (Ryan) Murray; great-grandchildren Penelope Kent, Madelyn and Tyler Kent, Mia and Isaac Soma, and Rowan Murray; and in-laws David and Dona Kent, and Margaret Kent.
