His father Andrew Mourer came from Iowa to North Dakota when 20 years old with a team of mules hitched to a triple box wagon. Cleon graduated from Hankinson High School in 1925. He and his brother, Andrew, came to Morton County by motorcycle that fall to teach school at Huff. His last school was the Grosgebauer School 10 miles northeast of Judson in 1930. He was then employed by Curtis Publishing Company of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (Saturday Evening Post, etc.) with territory in North Dakota. In 1938 he was appointed District Manager over the Idaho, Utah, Montana territory with headquarters at Pocatello, Idaho. Florence Swenson of Bismarck, North Dakota and Cleon were married in Minneapolis in 1939 and made their home in Pocatello, Idaho. The Swenson's were pioneer farmers in the Bismarck area. Florence's mother was Rachel Olin - daughter of the John Olin's who homesteaded 6 miles southwest of New Salem. Cleon enlisted in the US Army during World War II and was stationed at Aberdeen, Maryland Proving Ground. He then worked for the Alaskan Department Northwest Service Command at Fairbanks and Northway, Alaska. Florence joined him for the second year and worked as a secretary in the Army Headquarters Office. Returning home (to Bismarck) after the war in 1945, Cleon continued as salesman for Curtis Publishing Company. They lived in Bismarck until 1974 - since then residing in New Salem.
