Wake services for Clifford Runge will be at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 24, and a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 25. Both services will be at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Sidney, with Fr. Art Faesser officiating. Clifford Charles Runge, the son of Bismark Ernest and Josephine (Sager) Runge was born on the family farm west of Sidney on Feb. 15, 1923. He attended grade school at Brownson and graduated from Sidney High School with the class of 1941. Following graduation he farmed on the family farm until enlisting in the U.S. Army on Sept. 19, 1942, at Fort Robinson, Neb. Clifford attained the rank of Sergeant in the Remount Corps. He served until February 1946 and was discharged at Fort Logan, Colo. Clifford married Phylis Engel at Hemingford, on Nov. 24, 1948. He moved back to Sidney in January 1950 and joined Kokjer Chevrolet as a salesman and after two years became parts department manager. Clifford was with Chevrolet and G.M. Dealerships for 38 years. Following a short retirement he joined E & S Auto Supply in December of 1987, remaining there until October 2010. Clifford was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, the Sidney American and served on the St. Patrick's School Board. Survivors include his wife, Phylis of Sidney; two daughters, Jolene Schmitt and husband Larry of Grand Island, and Mary Helms and husband John of Omaha; one son, Alan Runge and wife Sandra of Lodgepole; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Bonnie Cizek of Denver. Clifford was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Betty (Combs) Runge; one infant son; one grandson, Benjamin; one great-grandson, Colby; seven brothers; and one sister.
