Clifford, son of Colben S. and Emma (Juvick) Saboe, was born September 4, 1923 in West Union, Iowa. He was a member of the West Union High School class of 1941. After graduation, Clifford attended college at Upper Iowa in Fayette. As part of an Army officer training program, he attended college in Spearfish, S.D. before being stationed in France, Germany, and Austria during WWII. On June 17, 1951, Clifford married Alma Ann Hausladen in Burlington IA. They were the parents of three children: Sheri Ann, Mark Eugene and Diane Mary, who died in infancy. Together they enjoyed traveling. Alma preceded him in death on October 14, 2000. Clifford worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 32 years, retiring as Postmaster in 1979. Clifford was also co-owner and operator with his wife of West Union Oil Co. for 25 years. He enjoyed genealogy and collecting stamps, coins, and numerous other items. In 2007, Clifford moved to the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. A year later, he was privileged to be on the first Honor Flight for military veterans from Iowa.
