Clifford Kragt, son of Edward and Adeline (Koele) Kragt, was born August 11, 1940, in rural Hull. He graduated from Hull High School. He continued his studies at Iowa State University in Ames, receiving a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree. He studied at Michigan State University in East Lansing and was awarded a doctorate in reproductive physiology. He married Diane Baker in 1962. He moved in 1966 to San Francisco, where he had a fellowship and faculty position at University of California Medical School in Berkley. He taught there until 1972, then moved to Kalamazoo, MI, and worked as a research scientist for Unjohn Company. He was a published author, writing a book on cancer research. He moved to Iowa to live with his parents in 1978. He built a home in Boyden, and recently had his son Brian, move in with him. He had a special bond with Brian. He particularly enjoyed Little League, Boy Scouts and Indian Guides. He enjoyed traveling, especially to Iowa to visit family. He often traveled to Europe when asked to speak about his research projects. Survivors include two sons, Mark and Brian; his mother, Adeline Kragt; a sister, Eileen; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Kragt.
