Born in Falkland Ridge, Annapolis Co., he was the youngest son of Hiram and Effie (Grimm) Sproule. He worked as a lumberman all his life starting with Hawkins & Zwicker Lumber Co. in 1934. Read More	Halifax Herald 4/23/2005 ******************** SPROULE, Clifton Harry "Tip" - 89, Truro, passed away April 22, 2005, in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born in Falkland Ridge, Annapolis Co., he was the youngest son of Hiram and Effie (Grimm) Sproule. He worked as a lumberman all his life starting with Hawkins & Zwicker Lumber Co. in 1934. In 1939, the company moved to New Annan, Colchester Co., where he managed three mills for three years. The company then moved to Riversdale and lumbered until 1949 and from there to Queen Street, Truro, and setup up a planing mill. He became manager and shareholder of Zwicker Lumber Co. In 1960, he was elected president and remained president until the company moved to Valley where he and his son, Dale, built a sawmill and planing mill. In 1995 Sproule Lumber Co. was sold to J.D. Irving which now is Irving Sproule Ltd. He was an advisory and shareholder of Sproule Lumber. He was past president of Maritime Lumber Bureau, Forest Sector Voluntary Economic Planning Board, Truro Golf Club and Truro Curling Club. Tip was a member of the Truro Housing Authority Board, First Baptist Church, Goodtimes Senior Citizen Club and treasurer of The Arthritis Society for Colchester County. He was also a member of the Rotary Club of Truro which he joined in 1958 and was president from 1974-1975, and he also received the Paul Harris Award. Tip was a well-respected businessman, and was known for his hard work and loving care for his family, friends and neighbours, who could rely on him to help them in any situation. He was a proud man with a good sense of humour and a talent for expressing himself, and he left happy memories with all of us, but we are also saddened at this time by our loss, but grateful to God for relieving him of his illness. He is survived by his loving wife, Frances (Gorman) Sproule; brother, Guy; grandchildren, Adam and Jason MacLellan, Charles (Debbie) Sproule, Trish Sproule; stepchildren, Wilma (Darrell) Landsburg, Wayne (Maureen) Gorman; several stepgrandchildren, step great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his first wife, Helen; son, Dale; daughter, Nancy; sisters, Marie, Evelyn, Grace, Myrna; stepsons, Stuart and Rollie Gorman. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 25, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., funeral service on Tuesday, April 26, at 2 p.m., both in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Rev. Andrew Crowell officiating. Interment in Robie Street Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations in Tip's memory may be made to a charity of your personal choice.
