He was 78. Clifton was born February 21, 1933, in Dimock Township, Pa., son of Fred and Harriet Ellis. He grew up and attended school in this area as well. He was an OTR truck driver for several years. In his first marriage, he had three children, and when it ended in divorce, he moved to Austin, Minn., where he met his second wife, Rosemary (Gerbig) Ellis. He helped raise her five children, and they eventually had one daughter together. They were married for 39 years. Clifton was a glazier at Ford-McNutt Glass in Rochester, Minn., for 13 years. In 1988, he moved his wife, two daughters, and two grandchildren to Durango. Over several years, he was employed as a truck driver for Engle Oil, Sandco, USPS, Ashburn Construction, and Leeder Construction, until he officially retired in 2005. He was a member of the NRA and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation for many years. He was an avid bowler and archer for more than thirty years, with a passion for hunting and riding mules with his son Kevin in the mountains near Durango. He enjoyed going to the Sky Ute Casino with his wife to play Blackjack. He was a "jack-of-all-trades" and would "invent" parts to repair just about anything if he couldn't find the replacement part. In his spare time, he spent hours in his "Leather Shop," where he made and repaired pack saddles. He also made leather belts, wallets and checkbook covers for his family members. He frequently attended auction sales to gather materials he might be able to use. He is preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary Ellis; parents, Fred and Harriet Ellis, brother Clyde Ellis, and granddaughter Stacia Ellis. He is survived by daughters Anita (Jesse) Lopez of Durango; Kim (Ron) Foreman of Farmington, N.M.; Donna (Mark) Scheiter of Monterey, Calif.; Caroline Georgariou of Binghamton, N.Y.; Deborah (Lonnie) Bohmbach of Red Wing, Minn.; sons Kevin (Carrie) Ellis of Las Vegas, Nev.; Mark Everson of Hayfield, Minn.; Douglas Everson of San Francisco, Calif.; Randy (Karen) Everson of Rochester, Minn.; 14 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; brothers Carl and Clayton Ellis, and sisters Vivian Hathaway, Elizabeth Button and Beulah Herman. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 5, 2011, at Hood Mortuary Chapel.
