Walkup, 77, of 12209 S. 3rd Ave., who died Friday evening, May 26, of a heart condition at Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center, were held from the Estel-Perrin-Avey Funeral Home with the Rev. John Riebhoff of Hope United Methodist Church officiating. Burial in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Mr. Walkup was born June 1, 1911, in Fredericksburg, the son of Charles and ClaraBelle Johnston Walkup. He received his education in the Fredericksburg and Marshalltown schools, graduating from Marshalltown High School in 1930. He attended Iowa State University and was then employed by the arms plant in Colorado. Mr. Walkup married Pauline Burke in 1933. In 1946 he married Esther Marquardt and she preceded him in death. Mr. Walkup married Mildred Swift in 1963. Mr. Walkup was a machinist in quality control at Lennox Industries for 32 years, retiring in 1976. He was a member of the United Furnace Workers Union Local #31 of which he was past president, a former member of the First Baptist Church, and a 10-year city council member. He was preceded in, death by one wife, two brothers, three sisters, and a daughter. Surviving are his wife, Mildred, three sons and three daughters, Roger (Lou) Walkup of Marshalltown, Michael Swift of Dumas, Texas, Larry Swift of Gilman, Becky Walkup of Marshalltown, Vicki Brammer of Mount Pleasant, and Jeanne Swift of Winslow, Wash. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren.
