His funeral will be at 4 p.m. Friday with a 30-minute state in Bethel Baptist Church of Locust, where he was a member. The Rev. Charlie Littlejohn will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. His funeral will be at 4 p.m. Friday with a 30-minute state in Bethel Baptist Church of Locust, where he was a member. The Rev. Charlie Littlejohn will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. Born April 19, 1917, in Stanly County, he was a son of the late Taw and Eunice Little Burris and was employed at Collins & Aikman in Norwood. He was a deacon at Bethel Baptist and had also taught Sunday School. His wife, Cara Hatley Burris, a son, Sherrill Burris, three brothers, Crowell Burris, Hoyle Burris and Christopher Burris, and two sisters, Letha Towrey and Lillian Russell, also preceded him in death. He is survived by a son, Reggie Burris of Oakboro; a sister, Estelle Samuels of High Point, and nephews and nieces. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 pm. today at Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle. At other times they will meet at his Home. Memorials may be made to Bethel Baptist Church, 12672 Bethel Church Road, Locust, NC 28097. Obituary published in The Charlotte Observer on Aug. 17, 2006.
