Description	:	Vernon Kelly, 26, drowned Sunday evening around 5:30 pm abour 500 yards east of the Lansing Bridge, nearly 100 ft below the Stevens slough bridge as he was fixing a sheared pin in the motor. He fell in the water which was about 10 ft deep at that place. His wife Frances and three other persons were in the boat when the accident happened. Rescue attempts by the others failed and the Lansing fire siren called an emergency blast and soon hundreds gathered at the sceneand local firemen with the rescue hooks began dragging the slough. He fell in the water which was about 10 ft deep at that place. His wife Frances and three other persons were in the boat when the accident happened. Within two hours his body was recovered almost in the exact spot where it disappeared from sight. Wisconsin authorities were called to investigate the accident. He was employed in the packing plant at Postville. He is survived by his wife, three children. He is also survived by his parents Mr and Mrs Clinton Kelly, of Waukon; two sisters, Mrs. Roger Hansmeier of rural Waukon and Mrs Harlan Kirkeby of Lewiston, MN. Funeral services were held Wednesday and burial in Oakland Cemetery.
