Description	:	Clyde C. Hengl, 96, died February 22, 2015. He was born on June 16, 1918 to parents Frank and Sophie Hengl, second son in a line of nine children. He grew up in Sidney, Nebraska and graduated from Sidney High School where he enjoyed playing basketball. Hengl, 96, died February 22, 2015. He was born on June 16, 1918 to parents Frank and Sophie Hengl, second son in a line of nine children. He grew up in Sidney, Nebraska and graduated from Sidney High School where he enjoyed playing basketball. During his high school years, he worked for Safeway Stores and continued his work with Safeway while attending the University of Denver, majoring in geology. He married Lois Galligher, also of Sidney. They had three daughters: Christine, Nancy, and Jane. Clyde gave up his pursuit of geology and ended up making the Federal Aviation Administration his career for 37 years specializing in air traffic control. He and his family lived in 8 different states during his career, and Clyde commissioned and managed 2 air traffic control facilities in California. Because of his expertise in Radio Telegraph operations, he was sent to Honolulu, Hawaii during World War II when radio telegraph was used to communicate with overseas military flights and military ground installations throughout the Pacific. Upon his retirement, he and wife Lois moved to Loveland, Colorado. Lois died a few years later suddenly of a heart attack. In 1985, Clyde and Helen Hoffman were married. They had become acquainted through the years while belonging to and being active in the local chapter of National Association of Retired Federal Employees. They continued their volunteer work in NARFE and First United Methodist Church and also added some world traveling to their schedule. During his retirement, Clyde was always busy doing volunteer work at Good Samaritan Village where he and Helen have lived since May 19, 1999. He was as conscientious and faithful doing his volunteer work as he was when working for the Federal Aviation Administration, and enjoyed all of it until he fell and broke his back in 2009. He valiantly and courageously endured the awful pain and increasing disabilities all those years. Clyde is survived by his wife, Helen, daughter, Christine Stapp and family of California, and daughter, Jane Wolf and husband Gary of Loveland, in addition to 5 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers, Harold, Adolph, Wayne, and LaVern and his wife Jane, and one sister, Joyce Miller and husband Gerry. He is preceded in death by his parents Frank and Sophie, wife Lois, daughter, Nancy Austin, brother, Virgil, son in law, John Stapp and sisters, Clara Warner and Dorothy Nelson. Cremation has been completed and inurnment has taken place in the Loveland Good Samaritan Columbarium. No formal services are planned as per Clyde’s request. He wanted this sparing of any concern and effort to be accepted as his final gift to family and friends. Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church in care of Kibbey Fishburn Funeral Home.
