Beer Killed in France Saturday morning of last week a dispatch from the War Department at Washington City conveyed to the people of Keosauqua the sad news that Clyde E., youngest son of Mrs. Frank Beer of this place, had been killed in France on Sept. 19. The dispatch was to Walter Beer, an uncle of Clyde, but contained no particulars. His mother is a widow, and has another son, Glen, in service over the sea but who was not in the section of the army Clyde was in. Sincere is the sympathy that goes to this mother in her affliction. Readers of the REPUBLICAN may remember perusing a couple of letters published in this paper written by Clyde some time ago. The last letter received from him by his mother was dated August 20, 1918. In this letter he stated it had been just one year that day since he landed in France. He was a graduate of the Keosauqua high school and had been two years in college at Ames when he enlisted, which was June 5, 1917. Clyde was liked by all our people. Here he lived most of his years and he is mourned almost as a son and brother. He was born on what is known as the Beer farm which borders the Des Moines river a short distance below Keosauqua, August 9, 1895, making his age, at time of death, 23 years and 10 days. He was a member of the Keosauqua Christian church. As soon as particulars of his death are received funeral services will be held here and a full obituary will be published.
