Description	:	Clyde Melvin Hunkins departed this life on Sunday (july 16, 2000) at McCook Community Hospital. He was 82 years old. Clyde was born in Hitchcock County, NE. to Perry Otis and Minnie Irene(Losey) Hunkins, on October 26,1917. He attended school at Distric #33 and graduated from Stratton High School in 1936. In 1940, he went to Los Angeles, CA. and was employed by Lockeed Air Craft Corp. until he was drafted into the U.S. Army, on June 13,1942. Read More	Clyde Melvin Hunkins departed this life on Sunday (july 16, 2000) at McCook Community Hospital. He was 82 years old. Clyde was born in Hitchcock County, NE. to Perry Otis and Minnie Irene(Losey) Hunkins, on October 26,1917. He attended school at Distric #33 and graduated from Stratton High School in 1936. In 1940, he went to Los Angeles, CA. and was employed by Lockeed Air Craft Corp. until he was drafted into the U.S. Army, on June 13,1942. On December 12,1942, he was sent overseas with the 2014th Ordinance Company to North Africa, Sicily, Italy, France and Germany. After the war he returned to the states and was discharged on October 20,1945. He then farmed with his brother Winston south of Stratton. On May 10, 1950, he married Arletta Marie Wttwer in McCook. To this union five sons were born. Clyde went to work for Miller Widder Company, in 1954, until his retirement. He was a member of St. John's Lutherun Church and the Stratton American Legion Post #281 and VFW. He enjoyed garding, carpenter work building their home in Stratton, and making wooden toys. Preceding him in death were his parents; two grandchildern, Jeniffer Hunkins and Jason Draper; one greatgranddaughter, Cassandra Eckhoff. Survivors include his wife, Arletta of Mccook; five sons, Kenneth Hunkins of lincoln, Gary Hunkins and wife, Jeanie of Trenton, Donald Hunkins and wife, Linda of Benkelman, David Hunkins of Eagle, and James Hunkins of Tuscon, AZ; one brother Winston Hunkins of Stratton; 9 grandchildren and 9 greatgrandchildren. Memorials may be given to KNGN Radio Station.
