Bee Branch Rd., Green Mountain, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 22, 2008 at his home surrounded by his loved ones. A native of Yancey County, he was the son of the late Gaither and Belle Peterson Renfro and the husband of Dorothy Briggs Renfro. Bee Branch Rd., Green Mountain, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 22, 2008 at his home surrounded by his loved ones. A native of Yancey County, he was the son of the late Gaither and Belle Peterson Renfro and the husband of Dorothy Briggs Renfro. Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his infant daughter, four sisters: Essie Johnson, Effie Tilley, Kate Whitson and Ethel Deyton; two brothers: Carl Renfro and Dock Renfro. Sonny was of the Baptist faith. He was an avid Cattle Broker, Farmer, Trucker and Trader, a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He will be missed by all who knew him. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Briggs Renfro; three daughters: Carolyn Bennett and husband, Lloyd, of Green Mountain, Rhonda Thomas and husband, Mark, of Green Mountain and Lisa Fox and husband, Doug, of Burnsville; two sons: Marvin Renfro and wife, Robbie, and Martin Renfro and wife, Cindi, of Green Mountain; a sister: Edith Street of Johnson City, TN; ten grandchildren: Melanie Rhodes, Monica Payne, Misty Horton, Ryan Broeker, Rylie Thomas, Lance Fox, Landrie Fox, Matthew Renfro, MaKenna Renfro and Ethan Renfro; two great grandchildren: Caitlin Sturgill and Colton Payne. Several nieces, nephews and a host of friends also survive. Funeral Services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008 in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Blaine Whitson and Rev. Noah Hughes will officiate. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in the Fairview Cemetery on Horton Hill. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home and other times will be at the home. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Yancey County, 856 Georges Fork Rd, Burnsville, NC 28714.
