Michael, 93, of Oakland and Deep Creek Lake, passed peacefully on Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at the Oakland Nursing and Rehab Center. Clyde was born in Westernport on June 17, 1916, a son of the late Bayard and Annie Kline Michael. His grandfather was George T. Michael, a member of the Maryland House of Delegates. The Michael name is listed among the first settlers in Garrett County.He was also preceded in death by his spouse, Mary Moran Michael. Clyde served in the Navy and was a tail gun instructor on the PBY Catalina flying boat of the 1930’s and 1940’s produced by Consolidated Aircraft. After serving in the military, he came back home to work with Leighton Brother’s Buick in Oakland and then later started Midway Motors where he achieved national recognition from Ford Motor Company for sales. He would later go on to represent State Farm Insurance for 37 years serving the needs of clients in Bloomington and the surrounding area. He was past President of the Tri-Towns Rotary and was a member of the Potomac Fire Company and American Legion. Clyde was an accomplished photographer and many of his photos are now displayed in various homes and offices. Clyde loved Deep Creek Lake. He loved to water ski and especially delighted in teaching others how to ski. He was an avid horseshoe player and loved to dance on Saturday nights at the Oakland American Legion. He thought they had those dances just for him. He was an accomplished baseball player and enjoyed teaching children the basics of the game. Clyde was the oldest child in his family and was predeceased by brothers, Thomas, Richard, Paul and Marshall. Sisters JoAnn and Catherine still survive. Clyde is survived by his three children, Don Michael of Connellsville, Pennsylvania, Linda Brack of Corrigansville and Rob Michael of Oakland; by grandchildren, William Hamm of Frederick, Christopher Michael of Connellsville, Emmett and Bailey Michael of Oakland. Friends will be received at the David Burdock Funeral Home, PA, 21 N. Second St, Oakland, on Friday August 21 2009 from 6 to 9 p.m.
