Description	:	Codecy Coffey Whitehead, 95, of Lowesville, died March 19 at the Medical Care Center in Lynchburg. Born in Nelson County, May 3, 1915, she was a daughter of the late Robert Coffey and Molly Wood Coffey. Codecy enjoyed sewing, was a member of Central Baptist Church and was very active with the WMU. She is survived by three daughters, Deanna Ponton of Roseland, Joyce Kirby of Wilson, N.C. and Patsy White of Apopka, Fla.; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the staff at the Medical Care Center, especially Dorothy. A funeral service was held March 21 at Byrum-Parr Funeral Home by the Rev. Eugene Beverly, with one hour viewing and visitation prior to the service. Burial followed in Jonesboro Cemetery. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Roseland Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 39, Roseland, VA 22967. My parents were Robert Coffey born July 22, 1868 died December 24, 1948 and Mary Sue Wood born May 11, 1872 died October 11,1946. My paternal grandparents were James and Easter Coffey. My maternal grandparents were Richard (Dick) Wood and Mary Stratton from Waynesboro. My father was a farmer and worked in the orchards in Nelson County. My brothers and sisters are Clarence, James, Jesse, Charles, Eliza beth, Myrtle and Virginia. I have never lived outside of Nelson County. There was no electric or running water in our home when I was a child. I remember carrying lots of water from a spring. We had many animals on our farm for food. I attended Rockfish Valley High School in Nellysford (this school is now a nursery and flower shop) for a few years and then finished at Fleetwood School, in Massie Mill. I remember when they were building the Fleetwood School, some of the people wanted to call it Massies Mill School and there was a big argument about the name. It was called Fleetwood School. I married Everett Hilton Whitehead in Hagerstown, Maryland December 27, 1936. Everett was born on July 8, 1911 and died on January 12, 1988. All of the Coffey family and my husband are buried in the Jonesboro Cemetery in Roseland. Everett and I were married for fifty-one years. We had three daughters. Deanna born October 2, 1940 and married Julian Ponton in 1966. They had two sons Everett Rollin and Paron Glenn. Joyce, born October 3, 1945 who married Douglas Kirbey and has one daughter Jacquelyn. They live in Florida. In addition, Patricia Lynn born November 17, 1950 that married John White. They have one daughter Jessica and one son Damien. They live in Florida also. My husband worked for the Cyanamid Plant in Piney River. In addition, we have always lived on the Lowesville Road in Roseland. On Christmas all of my family gather and have a good time. My sister Myrtle has a stepdaughter who adopted me as mother and she spends time with me during the holidays. She lives in Maryland. I have been attending the Shipman Senior Center since November 17, 1997. This helps to pass the time and makes me feel younger.
