Read More	Kendell Iverson (March 11, 1930 - March 21, 2015) Colonel Iverson was born on March 11, 1930 to Ole and Della Iverson in Lake Preston. He graduated from Lake Preston High School in 1948 and from the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York in 1954 with a Bachelor of Science degree in the Arts, Sciences and Literature. In 1964, Kendell graduated from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. and was awarded a Master’s Degree in Business Administration. From Washington, D.C., he completed seven tours of duty before returning to his roots in Lake Preston, South Dakota. He spent 4 years as Professor of Aerospace Studies at South Dakota State University and retired from the Air Force in 1979 after 25 years of active service. His military awards and decorations were numerous including the Legion of Merit and the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award. Colonel Iverson was a strong believer in service to his nation, community, and church. He served two terms as Kingsbury County Commissioner. While residing in Lake Preston he was a member and past council president of the Lutheran Church. He also served as President of the Lake Preston School Board, Chamber of Commerce, the Kiwanis Club and the Lake Preston Development Corporation. He operated the American Family Insurance business in Lake Preston for a number of years before retiring permanently. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed all sports. Kendell was a caring and loyal man, loving husband, devoted father and grandfather. Air Force veteran Colonel Kendell O. Iverson, age 85, of Lake Preston, passed away Saturday, March 21, 2015 at Dougherty Hospice House, Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Grateful for having shared his life are his beloved wife, Linda; two daughters, Tamara (William) Pryor of St Louis, Missouri and Jana (Jon) Constant of Denver, Colorado; two sons, Steven (Patricia) Iverson of Lenexa, Kansas and Jeffrey (Juli) Iverson of Lake Elmo, Minnesota; two stepchildren, Cherrlyn (Jamie) Pickering of Harrisburg, South Dakota and Brandon (Dawn) Karban of Lake Preston, South Dakota; 10 grandchildren and two step grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Marilyn and his sisters Opal, June, Bethel, and Crystal. He also had warm feelings for his “extended family” at Silver Plains Assisted Living in Lake Preston. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 27 at the Lake Preston Lutheran Church with Pastor Brad Sanderson officiating. Burial will be in the Lake Preston Cemetery with USAF Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Lake Preston Lutheran Church on March 26, 2015 and before services on Friday.
