Description	:	MASON CITY Colleen Joyce Suby, 77 of 1144 First St. N.E., Mason City, passed away Thursday (July 5, 2007) at home, surrounded by her family, following a seven-year battle with lung disease. Memorial services will be held 9:30 a.m. Saturday, July 7, 2007, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with Pastor Tom Healey, Hospice of North Iowa chaplain, officiating. Colleen was born March 12, 1930, in Mason City, to Wayne and Faye (Shobe)Burgess. She married Roger Suby on June 29, 1947. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in an outdoor celebration of family and friends this past weekend, full of love and joy and 60 years of beautiful memories. Colleen attended school in Mason City and graduated from Mason City School of Cosmetology in 1964. She worked as an instructor, and then opened a salon in their home. She wanted to be home for her children. Family was the most important thing in her life. Throughout the years, Colleen continued to work in her home, and then for Drug Town for many years, both in the store and eventually the greenhouse, a job she truly enjoyed. She joined TOPS Club, and was friend and confidant to all the members. Her favorite job was that of mom, grandma and great-grandma. She treasured every moment with the grandchildren, and they all called her Nom, a nickname that was started by the first grandchild. Colleen had a way of making each of them feel like the most important person in the world. She was constantly making mittens, teddy bears, afghans, quilts and all kinds of handmade gifts for her family. And quite often she taught her family how to make these gifts, to carry on that tradition. She enjoyed more than 30 years of fishing trips to the family cabin in Minnesota, always taking along as many family members as possible! During recent years, as her illness progressed, Colleen became a computing grandma. In her spare time if she wasnt sewing or cooking she played computer card games, her favorites being Canasta, Bridge and Pinochle. She used her computer to stay in touch with family and friends with e-mail and Webcam on a daily basis. If you couldnt come to visit, her computer would visit you! Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Roger Suby, of Mason City; their children, Mark (Connie) Suby, of Mason City; Collette Turner of Loveland, Colo.; Kirk (Val) Suby, of Mason City; and Jody (Gary) Sellon, of Mason City. Also her nine grandchildren: Heather Suby, of Holmen, Wis.; Jason (Sarah) Suby, of New Windsor, N.Y.; Amber (Todd) Eldridge, of Mason City; Ryan (Amy) Sellon, of Mason City; Larkin (Jayson) Becker, of LaCrescent, Minn.; Brecken Baker, of Fort Collins, Colo.; Andrew Suby, of Mason City; Courtney Sellon, of Mason City; and Eric Turner, of Las Vegas, Nev.; and five great-grandchildren: Austin and Allison Eldridge, Ethan Suby, Jaxon Sellon and Cole Becker. She is also survived by a special niece, Shauna (Steve) Jones, along with many nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and extended family. Colleen is preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Wava Bowers; and infant grandson, Adam Suby.
