Description	:	COLLEEN SELBY Colleen Marie Selby, formerly of Brunswick, died peacefully during the early morning hours of April 8, 2019, at age 98. She had been a resident at Ravenwood Nursing Home, in Hagerstown, for the past year and a half. Read More	COLLEEN SELBY Colleen Marie Selby, formerly of Brunswick, died peacefully during the early morning hours of April 8, 2019, at age 98. She had been a resident at Ravenwood Nursing Home, in Hagerstown, for the past year and a half. She was born in New Britain Connecticut on Jan. 18, 1921 to Otto John "Art" McKee and Anna Marie Huift McKee. She graduated from New Britain High School in 1939. During World War II, she was a "Rosie the Riveter" , working at the Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Engine Plant, in New Britain, where she served her country as a bookkeeper and secretary. After the war she pursued her love of the fine arts of sketching, painting, and sculpting for which she had a a marked talent. During 1952, she attended Fairmont College, now Fairmout University, in Fairmont, West Virginia, where she continued her study of fine arts. While at Fairmont College, she met her husband to be, Charles r. Selby. They were married in 1952, at the National Episcopal Cathedral of Washington in Washington, DC. In 1952, they had a son, Curt. She was a 75-year member of Grace Episcopal Church in Brunswick, where she served faithfully as a Sunday school teacher, along with many other volunteer activities. She loved Grace Church and her Grace family dearly. She went on to work at the Maryland School for the Deaf, in Frederick, Maryland for 18 year, retiring in 1983. The long term illness of her husband prompted her retirement, and she faithfully and lovingly cared for him at home until his death in 1992. She was a 59-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 79, in Frederick. She was also a member of the Steadman-Keenan American Legion Auxiliary No. 96, in Brunswick, and a Rod and Gun Club Lady's Auxiliary, in Hagerstown. Besides her beloved parents and husband, she was preceded in death by brother Charles W. McKee of Brunswick; sister Charlotte M. King and brother-in-law Claude Roughmont, North Carolina; in-laws George F. and Gladys M Selby; brother and sister in-law Homer e. and Anna B Selby. She is survived by son Curt M. Selby, and nephew Christopher C. King his wife Karen and son Daniel. There will be a memorial service for her on Saturday, April 27, starting at 11 a.m. at Grace Episcopal Church, in Brunswick, followed by interment in Park Heights Cemetery. A reception will be held for family and friends at the Brunswick American Legion immediately following the interment. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Colleen Selby's memory to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
