She was born September 5, 1920, in the small community of Edwand, Alberta. September 5, 1920 ~ October 3, 2007 Connie passed away October 3 in Victoria less than a month after celebrating her 87th birthday. She was born September 5, 1920, in the small community of Edwand, Alberta. The eleventh of thirteen children, she grew up on the family homestead and attended a small one classroom school adjoining their farm. She set out at an early age and started what was to become a very active and varied life. She travelled extensively and during the war lived in Indiana where she worked in a munitions factory. She married there and soon after moved to South Carolina. Her husband Jay {Walls} was a U.S. Navy Serviceman and shortly after their marriage was sent to the Pacific where he served until his death at Okinawa. Connie returned to Canada and took up residence in Victoria. A few years after the war, she met Bob, a career sailor in the Canadian Navy. They were happily united and for many years travelled frequently to the States where she enjoyed shopping and in particular, the gambling in Reno and Las Vegas. They also spent much time in Alberta tending the family farm. They were together over fifty years before his passing in April of 2005. Creative in arts and crafts, she excelled as a homemaker and decorator. She spent much time in her garden but was a born shopper and collector which was so evident in her home. Connie was generous in helping others and took command of any challenge that faced her. She liked things done right, right now, in her way. In all however, she was a private person, forthright and not one to waste a compliment. Predeceased by her sisters and brothers, Maggie, Sandra, Bea, Marion, Jack, Paul, Anne, Helen, Fay and Billy in infancy. She is survived and sorely missed by her sisters Sylvia Hiner of San Leandro, California and Rose MacPherson of Richmond, B.C. as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
