Connie Lee Schepler, 76 years of age, of Wilcox, passed away on Sunday, July 20, 2014 at the St. John's Good Samaritan Society in Kearney, Nebraska. Connie was born March 11, 1938 on a farm south of Huntley in Harlan County, Nebraska, the eldest of four children born to Hobart and Doris (Garrison) Skiles. She received her education from the Huntley Public School, graduating from Huntley High School with the class of 1955. She then pursued higher education at the College of Beauty in Hastings, Nebraska to receive her cosmetology license. She began her career in a salon in Wilcox for a short time prior to her marriage. On February 23, 1958 she was united in marriage to Gene Schepler at the Huntley Methodist Church and the couple resided in Holdrege until moving to Wilcox in 1961. To this union two daughters were born: Pamela born on December 24, 1962 and Jill born August 13, 1967. In the years to come Connie and Gene were also blessed with seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Gene and his brother, Merle, started Schepler Bros. Service Station in 1960, Connie served as the bookkeeper for the station for 35 years until its closing in 1995. Connie was a member of the United Methodist Church in Wilcox, where she was active with the U.M.W.; she was also a member of the Legion Auxiliary, and active with the Women's Chamber of Commerce in Wilcox. Connie's competitive spirit made her an avid Nebraska sports fan and loved to attend her grandchildren's games and activities. Connie and Gene also loved traveling together. Most importantly, Connie loved the time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Connie was preceded in death by her parents; her father-in-law and mother-in-law: Ernest and Lydia Schepler; two brothers-in-law: Merle Schepler and Merle Ortegren. She leaves to mourn her passing her husband of 56 years, Gene of Wilcox; two daughters: Pam Robinson of Wilcox and her special friend, Mark Smolik, and Jill Fouts of Hildreth, Nebraska and her special friend, Henry Schriner; seven grandchildren: Jarad Robinson and his wife, Lyndsay, Cody Robinson and his wife, Andrea, Heath Robinson and Sara, Austin, Shelby, and Shaina Fouts; four great-grandchildren: Ryan, Wyatt and Westen Robinson and Addison Robinson; two sisters: Sandy Roberts and her husband, Tom of Knoxville, Tennessee and Kathy Ortegren of Wilcox; one brother, Ken Skiles and his wife, Sue of Elwood, Nebraska; brother-in-law, Wayne Schepler and his wife, Judy of Wilcox; sisters-in-law: Sandra Schepler of Kearney, and Sharon Richardson of Holdrege; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Bauer-Torrey & Mach Funeral Home in Wilcox is in charge of the arrangements.
