He is survived by his good wife, two sons: George of Nelson, and Cris of Crete; and three daughters: Kathrine Schaufelberger of Lincoln, Mrs. Chas. Giese of Hastings, Mrs. Harold Giese of Hastings, Nebraska. An honest workman; a good citizen highly respected by all who knew him has answered the last summons. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. V.R. Daniels at the M.E. church (sic) Friday afternoon. The Nelson Gazette, Thursday, March 21, 1935; pg. 8 ====== The below info is given by Don Schaufelberger, the only surviving grandson of Conrad Heinrich, son of Katharine Elizabeth Heinrich Schaufelberger. In the text it indicates there were eight children. I am aware of only six; a daughter, name not legible on the ships manifest when Conrad immigrated to the United States, who died and was buried at sea, George who immigrated with his parents, Katharine Elizabeth and Christian a.k.a. Chris twins born in 1900, Nellie Elizabeth a.k.a. Nell and Mary Elizabeth a.k.a. Betty or Elizabeth. My mother Katharine told me of a child being born, dying and being buried at sea but this must have been incorrect comparing the date of the arrival of the ship in the USA and the birth of my mother so that my grandmother must have been pregnant when she immigrated to the USA. Confirmation that a child died and was buried at sea seems to be confirmed by the ships manifest showing a daughter and son George but only one child passed through Ellis Island. My brother's wife had collected some additional information regarding this daughter, which she never passed on to me, and her genealogy search file was never found after her death about three years ago. You will note the spelling of Katharine; however, I have copies of my mother's original birth certificate, baptismal certificate and marriage license and on all of these her name is spelled Katherine. I did not come across these until after my mother passed away in 1998. Over the years, and especially in the last 30 years of her life, she insisted that her name be spelled Katharine and it appears that way on many documents in later years. My wife recalls taking my mother to the state offices to have her original birth certificate "corrected" to show her name spelled "Katharine". The text shows that Conrad grew up in Germany; however, the ship's manifest shows "last place of residence" as Norka, Russia for both he and his wife. In tracking I have been doing regarding their sponsor, it appears that he was a relative and was from Norka, Russia and lived in Nelson, Nebraska. Since Nelson was heavily populated in the early 1900s by immigrants from Norka, Russia, I am of the opinion that Conrad grew up in Norka, Russia though he immigrated to the US on a ship from Homburg, Germany and was one of the many Germans from Russia. If desired, I can give additional information on all of the siblings; but cannot furnish information explaining the difference between six and eight children. It is possible there might have been children born and died prior to Conrad's immigration which I am unaware of. Had two additional children been born after my grandparents arrival in the United States, I believe either my mother or Aunt Elizabeth would have mentioned the fact that they were born and died.
