Read More	Ellensburg Daily Record Monday – 18 March 1957 Front Page – Column 3 CORA BARKER IS TAKEN BY DEATH Mrs. Cora Weaver Barker, 84, a member of one of Kittitas Valley's earliest pioneer families, died Friday at Sultana, Calif. Mrs. Barker died at the home of a brother, L. M. Weaver, where she had lived since the death of her parents. She had been an invalid for the past two years. Mrs. Barker was born June 3, 1872, in Cherokee County, Kas. Her parents moved to Joplin, Mo., in 1875 and in 1883 came to Washington Territory, settling near the mouth of the Menastash Canyon where her father, the late J. N. Weaver, took a homestead which was a family home for many years. The trip to Washington was made by rail to San Francisco, by boat to The Dalles, Ore., and by wagon to the Kittitas Valley via Fort Simcoe. Mrs. Barker attended schools in the Kittitas Valley and after graduation from Washington State Normal here she taught for more than 30 years in the Ellensburg schools. She retired in 1928. She was married June 12, 1928 to Fred Barker, who died in 1937. The body will arrive here, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Weaver, Tuesday at 4:45 p.m. and will lie in state at the Evenson Funeral Home until 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. at the IOOF Cemetery. Elder Francis Phillips of the Seventh Day Adventist Church will conduct the graveside rites, funeral services having been held in California. Pallbearers will be T. Eugene Farrell, John B. Moser, James Ramsay, Jake Frederick, J. Alva Bull and Fred Palmiero. Also surviving is another brother R. A. Weaver of Ellensburg. Another brother, Victor Weaver of Wenatchee, preceded her in death. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
