Read More	THEOBALD, CORA MARIE — Cora Marie Theobald was born June 13, 1894, to Charles and Louisa (Wunnenberg) Aebig, at Plymouth, Neb., the fifth of seven children and attended school in Plymouth. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church. She moved to Ohiowa in 1910, where she worked in McFarland’s General Store for several years. In 1919 she was married to Harry Theobald, and the young couple began farming a mile south of Ohiowa. Six children were born to this union, Dale, Doris, Shirley, Dohn, Richard and Sharon. The family moved to the “Harmony Place,” a farm midway between Ohiowa and Bruning, in 1932. This farm got its name from the fact that it was adjacent to a small church and cemetery established by early settlers in the community. Five years later the family moved to a farm one-half mile west and one mile south of Geneva. Harry and Cora operated this farm until 1960, at which time they purchased a home at 512 South 10th Street, in Geneva, and one of their sons, Dick and his wife Marion took over the farming operation. Harry passed away in 1962, and Cora continued to live in their home until last summer, at which time she sold it, and moved into an apartment at 945 F Street, where she resided for the remainder of her life. Cora was of a generation that lived through very difficult times…two World Wars…the Great Depression…and many years of drouth disasters. The lot of a farm wife was hard, but she cheerfully accepted and faced the challenges of the times. She loved to cook and excelled in the art of preparing a delicious meal in an amazingly short period of time. Cora liked to be with people. She delighted in entertaining Kensington and ladies’ card groups in her leisure time, and lived a very active life up to the very last day of her life. Her attitude toward life was perhaps her greatest asset, for she maintained a positive attitude to the very end. Probably one of the greatest compliments ever paid her was a comment by her only surviving sister-in-law, Mrs. Myrtle (Theobald) Silvey, who said: “No matter how poorly one might be feeling, after a person talked to Cora for a few minutes, one just couldn’t help feeling better.” It was no doubt this trait that enabled her to appear and to act like one much younger than her actual years. The past ten years Cora was troubled with congestive heart failure, but for the most part she was able to lead a very full and active life. She died suddenly on March 5 in her apartment, at the age of 86 years. Cora was preceded in death by her husband, Harry, and by her daughter, Shirley (Mrs. Sam) Burgdorf, who died in 1956. She is survived by three sons: Dale and his wife, Ruth of Lincoln; Dohn and his wife, Joyce of Tucson, Ariz., and Dick and his wife, Marion of Geneva; and by two daughters, Doris (and her husband, Bob) Miller, of Minnetonka, Minn., and Sharon Kay Theobald of Lincoln; by 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Myrtle (Theobald) Silvey of Lincoln; a brother-in-law, dr. M.F. Schafer of Colorado Springs, Col; and by a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins. The funeral service was held Monday, March 9, at 2 p.m., at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, of Geneva, with Rev. Charles Schepel conducting the service. Dan Petersen sang two hymns, “The Old Rugged Cross” and “How Great Thou Art”. Evelyn Foster was organist. Pallbearers were Orville Duncan, Lambert Hopken, Fred Nunns, Sr., Robert Ewalt, Francis Kimbrough, and Herbert Stoldorf. Interment was in the Geneva public cemetery.
