Description	:	Cora Nettie Kern, daughter of Albert and Clementine Tryon, was born near Terre Hante, Indiana on September 27, 1879 and died in St. Joseph's hospital in Omaha February 12, 1955, at the age of 75 years, 4 months and 25 days. When she was about two years old the family moved to Shelby county, Iowa where she spent most of her life. For some years she taught school in Shelby county. When she was about two years old the family moved to Shelby county, Iowa where she spent most of her life. For some years she taught school in Shelby county. In 1902, she married William Holmes, who died in 1924. An adopted son Alfred Holmes was welcomed into this home. On July 5, 1927 she married Floyd A. Kern and they lived on a farm in Harrison county until 1945, when they moved to Omaha. She was a member of the Christian church in Defiance and later transferred her membership to the Presbyterian Church in Shelby. She is survived by her husband, Floyd A. Kern of Omaha; and adopted son, Alfred Holmes of Montpelier, North Dakota; two brothers Raymond Tryon of Harlan and Albert Tryon of Council Bluffs; and two sisters, Mrs May Effie Riddle of Omaha and Mrs Alice Martin of Winchester, Illinois. Funeral services were held Monday, February 14 at the Pauley funeral home with the Rev. Robert Dragoo of Defiance in charge. Pallbearers were James Tryon, Albert Hulsebus, Dale McKeighan and George Densmore. Burial was in the Harlan cemetery. Harlan Tribune Harlan, Iowa February 18, 1955
