Corbin Boarman, a retired telephone company employee, had always been an exemplary husband, father, and well-liked neighbor until January 1937, when he slipped into a terrible depression. Ryan arrived later, he met them at the gate. He first asked to be taken to a hospital, then shot and wounded Mary in the arm. The gun then jammed, and William managed to knock it from Corbin's hand. Corbin fled the scene and threw himself under an approaching train near the Catholic University station in Washington. Bill Boarman had been engaged to marry Carol Goodin. Mary and William Ryan were married six months after the murders, on June 2, 1937. Their marriage lasted nearly sixty years, and they had four children.
