Her parents were Robert and Mary (Van) Quick, also natives of the Empire state. The paternal grandparents were Elijah and Mary (Van) Quick, natives of New Jersey and farming people. In religious faith they were Baptists. In their family were eight children: Firman, Elijah, Morris, Gordon, Robert, John, Mrs. Nancy Disbrow and Mrs. Charlotte Willoby. In religious faith they were Baptists. In their family were eight children: Firman, Elijah, Morris, Gordon, Robert, John, Mrs. Nancy Disbrow and Mrs. Charlotte Willoby. Robert Van Quick, the father of Mrs. Eglin, was a shoemaker and followed that trade in connection with farming. During the war of 1812 he joined the army. Both he and his wife were members of the Baptist church and died in the Empire state. They had a family of thirteen children, as follows: Mrs. Mary A. Willoby, Mrs. Rachel Toppy, Calvin, Mrs. Lucinda Humphrey, Mrs. Hannah Lewis, Micajah, Cordelia, Elijah, John, Edwin, Morris J., Luther and Mrs. Adalaide Howe. All the children lived to mature years with the exception of Morris, who died at the age of eighteen months." —from the Genealogical and Biographical Record of North-Eastern Kansas, The Lewis Publishing Company, Chicago, 1900. DEATHS. Eglin. Cordelia Quick was born in Montgomery county, N. Y., January 22, 1822, and was married to Thomas Eglin, October 22, 1851. She died August 26, 1904, after an illness of a few days at her home in Hamlin. The deceased has been in failing health for the past year. Mrs. Eglin united with the Missionary Baptist church in Brooklyn soon after her marriage. They moved to Illinois in 1855 and came to Kansas in 1865. She was a charter member of the Hamlin Baptist church and was a faithful, earnest christian. Rev. Mr. Kemp, of Troy, preached the funeral sermon. It was a beautiful tribute to her christian character. One son, Pierson Eglin, remains to mourn the loss of a good mother. Mr. and Mrs. Eglin reared Mrs. Kate Grover as their own daughter. The floral offerings were many and beautiful. The church was tastefully decorated with palms and flowers and draped in black and white. The body bearers were: Jesse Wallace, Mr. Spare, Mr. Goodwin, J. Kerns, Ed Evans and H. Schlichter. The singers were: W. Stapleton, R. C. Berkley, Mrs. Moore, Mrs. C. Berkley, Mrs. H. Shelton, Mrs. Magee, N. Shelton and C. Jones, with Mrs. Jones as accompanist. The remains were laid to rest by her husband who died one year ago. Those who attended the funeral from Hiawatha were: Mrs. Swinney, Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Hoffman, Mr. and Mrs. Goodwin, Mr. and Mrs. Irving Blanchard, Mrs. John Weltmer.
