CORNELIA FORBES AT PUYALLUP -- REMAINS ARE BROUGHT TO OLYMPIA Cornelia A. Forbes. one of the very few remaining early settlers who pioneered their way across the plains in the fifties, passed away in Puyallup, on Easter noon of Bright's disease, death came with brief notice, although Mrs. Forbes had been in poor health for fifteen months, and had recently given up her separate home and was at the home of her son, Will, with Bert and Mrs. Bartel living near by. The funeral service was held in that city on Tuesday, at which Rev. M. B. Milne officiated and a quartet of friends rendered music. There was a large gathering of new and old friends, many of whom came to Olympia for the interment beside the remains of the late husband, and were joined by relatives and old friends from Mason County, including all the old families of the Kamilche valley, which was the Forbes' home for more than forty years. Cornelia Ann Taylor was born in Jacksonville, Ill., 71 years ago, and when three years old made the journey across the plains to Oregon. Five years later the Taylor family came to Washington and settled in the Chehalis valley near Elma. There she was married when 19 years of age to John B. Forbes and settled on a homestead at Summit, near McCleary, later known as Campbell prairie where three children were born. In 1880 Mr. Forbes purchased the lands in the Kamilche valley and after logging them in the coming years developed much of the large farm now owned by E. Rietdorf. Following the death of Mr. Forbes, the farm was sold about fifteen years ago, and his widow and her family moved to Puyallup and each established homes there. Deceased leaves three children, Wm. H. Forbes, Mrs. Harriet Bartel and Bertram Forbes, all resident of Puyallup, and five grandchildren, the latter including Bessie Bunn, Puyallup; Herbert Bunn, The Dulles, and Gene Bunn of Montesano. Mrs. Mark Fredaon of Shelton, Mrs. John Bunn and Walfred Taylor of Portland and Herbert Taylor of Elma are brothers and sisters of the deceased, Mrs. Cornelia Forbes was held in the highest esteem among her Puyallup neighbors as she was among those who were her associates in the earlier years in Mason County and the bereaved ones will receive the condolence of the old friends here.
