(Grand Army of the Republic) Post 31 in Hurley, South Dakota. As a young man he walked from York, Pennsylvania to Swan Lake, Dakota Territory. He was a nurseryman who later became a farmer after settling on a tree claim southeast of Hurley. Harrigle was born in York, Pennsylvania to parents John and Kate Harrigle. He was a veteran of the Civil War and belonged to the G.A.R. (Grand Army of the Republic) Post 31 in Hurley, South Dakota. As a young man he walked from York, Pennsylvania to Swan Lake, Dakota Territory. He was a nurseryman who later became a farmer after settling on a tree claim southeast of Hurley. C.B. was a member of the United Bretheran Church and said the first church service in Hurley in a building which he constructed. This building, as well as the home he built for himself, remain standing. C.B. married Amanda Welch and together they had one son Roy R. Harrigle. Following is the obituary from The New Era newspaper Parker, South Dakota: Major Harrigle Dead Comrade C.B. Harrigle a member of the E.S. McCook Post died very suddenly on Thursday afternoon last at the Libby hospital in Washington, D.C., in which city he was spending the winter. The remains were brought back to Hurley for burial. The services were held on Monday afternoon in the Presbyterian church and were conducted by the Rev. H. Lee Vincent, assisted by the Post and I.O.O.F. Lodges. Burial in the Hurley Cemetery. The deceased was aged 75 years, 5 months, and 17 days. He is survived by one brother, a son and a host of loyal friends. He was a pioneer settler of this vicinity and was ever highly respected. He was a pleasant man, a good soldier, and a good citizen.
