Henry Cohen, 91, died at his home Saturday morning. He was born in Augusta, Georgia on April 23, 1913 to the late John Jay Cohen and Lillian Josephine Stinson Cohen. Mr. Cohen received an LLB degree from Washington and Lee University, where he was captain of the golf team and swim team and a member of Kappa Alpha fraternity. After practicing law in Georgia, he served for several years on the legal staff of the Home Owners Corporation in Washington, Atlanta, and Richmond. He was Director of the City of Spartanburg Housing Authority, a position he held for 10 years. After receiving an MAT Degree from Converse College, he taught at Evans Junior High School and was an assistant principal at Carver Junior High School. He was a Lt. (jg) in the Navy and served in the Pacific during World War II. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Country Club of Spartanburg. Mr. Cohen was for many years a volunteer for Mobile Meals and a member of First Presbyterian Church of Spartanburg. He was married to the late Kathleen Carter Cohen. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Stephen J. Huntley and Mrs. Benjamin S. Willard, four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren. He will be lovingly remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 22, 2004 at the Graveside in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, with Rev. Larry Bates officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Willard, 5 Juniper Court, Spartanburg.
